JIM MALCOLM NAMED HARBOR MASTER OF THE YEAR BY THE CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF HARBOR MASTERS AND PORT CAPTAINS

Richardson Bay Regional Agency’s Harbor Master honored with prestigious industry award

Sausalito, CA—Jim Malcolm, the Harbor Master for the Richardson Bay Regional Agency (RBRA) has been named Harbor Master of the Year by the California Association of Harbor Masters and Port Captains (CAHMPC), a statewide trade organization.

“It is an honor to serve the Richardson Bay community and I feel fortunate to work in a place with such a vibrant history and amazing natural resources,” said Malcolm. “I am humbled to be recognized by my peers for my work. This is a great honor and I’m excited to continue our mission of making Richardson Bay safe, accessible and enjoyable for all.”

Malcolm received the honor at the CAHMPC’s annual awards ceremony, held last week in Sacramento. Malcolm was nominated by one of his peers and was awarded the honor among a field of his contemporaries in California.

As part of his nomination, Malcolm was recognized for his work “to drive policy resulting in the adoption of an updated Transition Plan for the anchorage that included a functional housing plan (in cooperation with Marin Housing Authority) and a boat buyback program.”

Malcolm was also noted for being “successful in managing efforts to update regulations for anchoring in Richardson Bay, including the implementation of improved vessel and marine debris disposal process.”

“Throughout his career, Harbor Master Malcolm has consistently displayed what it means to be a professional, passionate and dedicated mariner,” said Andrea Lueker, President of the CAHMPC. “Through his tireless efforts as the Harbor Master for Richardson Bay, he’s continued to show why he is so admired among his peers. This award reflects that deep and long standing respect.”

Malcolm was named the full-time Harbor Master for the RBRA in March 2022 after acting on a temporary basis in that role since October 2021.

As the RBRA Harbor Master, Malcolm oversees and supports day-to day operations of the waterways, open waters and shoreline of Richardson’s Bay. He is responsible for the administration, communication and enforcement of regulations regarding anchoring and vessel operations, and provides information to the public regarding operational safety and environmental concerns.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have Jim working on our behalf,” said RBRA Executive Director Brad Gross. “He’s a dedicated professional who is committed to his duties. He knows how important it is to build lasting, positive relationships in this community and he’s constantly working on ways to make Richardson Bay a welcoming environment for everyone.”
